Cooperativity in Highly Excited Rydberg
Ensembles — Control and Entanglement
Kick-Off MeetingNovember 27 - 30, 2011
University of Heidelberg (IWH), Hauptstrasse 242, 69117 Heidelberg, Germany
The official kick-off meeting took place in November 2011 at the Internationales Wissenschaftsforum in Heidelberg, Germany hosted by Prof. Dr. M. Weidemüller, scientific co-ordinator of ITN.
This marked the beginning of the scientific program of the network and was a great opportunity for all the COHERENCE partners to meet and to showcase their research to prospective new students.
There were 67 participants, including 55 COHERENCE members. 20 oral presentations by network partners reflected the diverse range of Rydberg related research carried out in COHERENCE. This was accompanied by 4 guest talks on key topics, for example, on nonlinear optics with Rydberg atoms and quantum information processing. The poster session, mostly presented by students affiliated with the network included 17 posters. In a series of 3 special sessions the COHERENCE partners discussed organizational topics, including recruitment, the budget, and planning of future network events.
