International conference on Rydbergs at Durham (iCoRD)
COHERENCE final conference

The iCoRD conference was hosted by the University of Durham, featuring the latest developments in the field of many-body and Rydberg physics. Aiming to bring together both theorists and experimentalists, this conference reviewed the current state of the art, and examined where the field is likely to go in future. The YEA meeting was held as an integrated part of the main conference programme. The young resesachers - COHERENCE fellows - presented theirs achievements and so became the part of the international Rydbergs community. Two sessions of invited talks and a careers event for young researchers completed the YEA programme.
Rydberg Physics with Two-Electron Systems
COHERENCE Exploratory Workshop

This workshop was supported by the Marie Curie Initial Training Network COHERENCE. It explored current interests and frontiers of the Rydberg physics of two-electron systems and includes topics such as long-range interacting many-body systems, dressing, electronic structure and dynamics of highly excited atoms and molecules, quantum optics and hybrid systems, ultracold plasmas as well as emerging fields with Rydberg two-electron systems. The workshop offered a unique opportunity for all participants to hear about recent advances and emerging challenges in these areas and to work out fruitful interconnections between these fields.

Title: Polariton blockade efects in Rydberg atoms and Semiconductors
Workshop POLARYS 2014 was devoted to excitation blockade mechanisms in Rydberg atomic ensembles and cavity excitonic polaritons.
This meeting was designed as an opportunity for two communities of Rydberg atoms and Semiconductors to discuss on similar phenomena, though different in their physical implementations, and their potential applications. A specific emphasis of the meeting was quantum non-linear optics, but other topics such as polaritonic quantum fluids was included also.

Summer school on the Quantum, Atomic, Molecular and Plasma Physics (QuAMP)

The Quantum, Atomic, Molecular and Plasma Physics (QuAMP) school features tutorial-style lectures from a range of distinguished international speakers, introducing themes of broad interest in the areas of quantum, atomic, molecular and plasma physics, providing an introduction to topics for the uninitiated and deepening the knowledge of more experienced researchers. The level of the lectures will be aimed at graduate students and young post-docs.
A selected group of students (selected based on the quality of their abstract) will have the chance to present a short talk on their own work. All other participants are requested to present a poster on their research.
Delegates are invited to stay on to attend a half-day mini-workshop on 19th September, featuring research talks on JQC-themed research activities.

Title: Ultracold Rydberg Physics
This workshop will feature the latest developments in ultracold Rydberg physics. The field of ultracold Rydberg gases is at the crossroads of various scientific areas, including atomic, molecular, optical, and condensed matter physics, among others. In this strongly interdisciplinary field, these systems provide new and interesting phenomena and applications, especially in many-body physics, quantum information, metrology, nonlinear optics or laser technology. The aim is to bring together experimentalists and theorists to review the current progress and explore future directions and challenges in this field.

EXTERNAL EVENT: Shedding Light on Emergent Quantum Phenomena

The interaction of many simple elements, each obeying basic rules, often produces remarkably rich and complex new behavior. In the quantum realm, this gives rise to exotic effects such as superconductivity, superfluidity, magnetism, new types of 'quasi'-particles, and new phases of matter. This symposium, held at the Internationales Wissenschaftsforum Heidelberg (IWH) in March 2014 will be among the first to focus on emergent phenomena in ultracold quantum gases. Highlighting cutting edge research from around the world, we strive to create a unified understanding of many-body phenomena in interacting quantum systems.
A small number of openings are available.

Winter School was organized by COHERENCE Partner Hossein Sadeghpour (Harvard University Cambridge, Massachusetts/USA).Event Webpage
The program focused on Ultracold Rydberg physics and engineering. The primary goal was to enable and encourage informal interactions as well as formal discussions during the school. The poster sessions gave an opportunity for young researchers to present theirs research and receive feedback from the faculty at the school, and fellow students.

RQI Winter School on Rydberg Physics and Quantum Information
February 10-15, 2013
The winter school is organized by MALICIA - EU-Project in collaboration with ITN COHERENCE.
With the winter school we aim to provide introductory lectures and high-level research talks in the fields of atomic physics with Rydberg excitations and its applications in Quantum Information Processing. Accordingly, the school will cover a broad range of topics from Atomic Physics, Many Body Physics and Quantum Information Theory. In addition to lectures and poster sessions, there will be ample time for informal discussions.

Title: Fundamentals of Rydberg Atoms and Molecules
COHERENCE Network focuss on the creation and manipulation of Rydberg atoms and their applications in fundamental science and technology. The School in Pisa introduces the young researchers to the "Fundamentals of Rydberg Atoms and Molecules" and thus lays the foundations for the remainder of their studies and research. The lectures were, therefore, at an introductory level and accessible to students from different backgrounds. After the School, there were a Young Excited Atomix (YEA) meeting entirely organized by the young researchers.
